Stock Market Update: What Investors Need to Know This Week
If you have been checking your investment app this week and wondering why some of your Nigerian stocks are slipping…

If you read Part 1 then you already understand something important. Investing does not have to be complicated. It is not about being rich first. It is about making small smart decisions and repeating them over time and most importantly being patient and consistent.
In Part 1 we talked about familiar things like banks, telecommunication companies, food, energy and agriculture. Things we already use every day.
In this part we are moving a little forward. Not into confusion. Just into areas people keep hearing about and wondering if they should be involved.
Let us talk about them slowly.
Technology is everywhere now. Phones, laptops, apps, online payments, social media, even how we work and learn. So when people invest in technology they are really investing in how the world is changing.
Big technology companies make tools people rely on daily. That is why their value can grow quickly. But that same speed can also make their prices go up and down a lot. This is where beginners need to be careful.
You do not need to understand everything about artificial intelligence or software. What matters is knowing that technology grows fast and also moves fast.
Examples of global technology companies include, Apple, Microsoft ,Google ,and Nvidia. Nigerians usually invest in these through international investment apps.
You can use apps like Chaka ,Risevest ,Troves,eToro or Interactive Brokers to buy these stocks.
If you are a beginner do not put too much money here. A small part of your money is enough. Think of it as planting a seed and watching it grow slowly.
About ten to fifteen percent of your investment money is more than enough.
When people hear real estate they think of land documents and huge amounts of money. But today you can invest in property without owning a house.
There are companies that own buildings, shopping malls ,offices and apartments. You can buy a small part of these companies and earn from rent and property growth.
In Nigeria these are called real estate investment trusts. Globally they are called REITs.
You can buy them through stock investment apps just like normal shares.
This type of investment is good because property usually holds value over time especially when prices rise.
You do not need to rush. Just invest slowly and think long term.
Ten to fifteen percent of your money is okay.
Avoid people promising quick land profits. Real estate grows with time not urgency.
This is one of the easiest ways for beginners to invest.
Instead of choosing one company, you are buying many companies at once. Someone else does the selection and management for you.
This reduces stress and mistakes.
There are funds that focus on Nigerian companies and others that focus on global markets. Some mix stocks bonds and cash together.
Apps like Risevest ,Chaka and Troves offer these options. Banks and investment firms also offer them.
If you do not want to overthink investing this is a very good place to start.
You can put twenty to thirty percent of your money here especially if you like peace of mind.
Some people do not like seeing their money go up and down. If that sounds like you then bonds are your friend.
Bonds are simply loans you give to the government or companies and they pay you back with interest.
They are not exciting but they are steady.
In Nigeria you can invest in treasury bills ,government bonds and corporate bonds through banks and brokers. Globally you can also buy bond funds.
This type of investment is good for balance and safety.
Ten to twenty percent is enough especially if you want to sleep well at night.
Crypto is popular because of stories. Some people made money. Some people lost money. That is the truth.
As a beginner you should not run from it but you should not run into it either.
If you are curious, stick to well known coins like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Avoid coins people are promoting aggressively.
Use trusted platforms and never borrow money to invest in crypto.
Think of it as an experiment not your main plan.
Two to five percent is enough. Even less is fine.
You do not need to invest in everything at once. Start with what you understand.
Banks, telecom and consumer goods give stability. Technology and funds give growth. Real estate protects against inflation. Bonds give safety. Crypto gives small exposure to the future.
This is how balanced investing works.
Slow steps. Clear thinking. No pressure.
Investing is not about sounding smart. It is about being consistent.
If you can invest small amounts regularly and stay patient you are already ahead of many people.
You do not need perfect timing. You need a calm mindset.
Money grows quietly when you stop rushing it.
