HOW MODERN RELIGION HAS DRIFTED FROM TRUE CHRISTIANITY (PART ONE)

The Church Today vs the Christ of the Bible

PART ONE: How We Lost the Heart of Christianity

Let us talk honestly. Not as church people, not as pastors or workers or members,Just as human beings;Because if we are being truthful, many people no longer feel safe in church. Not because God is not there, but because people are.

The Church used to be a place where broken people came to heal. Now it feels like a place where broken people pretend to be perfect and judge others for not pretending well enough. People now prefer to find solace in being alone, drinking, smoking, going to clubs rather than turning to God.

And that alone should worry us.

Christianity Did Not Start as Religion. It did not begin as a system. It began as a relationship.Jesus did not gather perfect people. He gathered fishermen with tempers, tax collectors who cheated people, women with painful pasts, and men who doubted Him openly.Did you get that? Christianity didn’t start off perfectly! It started with sinners.

He did not ask them to clean up first, he didn’t question them or ask them to change their outfits or fit into any sort of category to be with him. He met them as they were and accepted them that way and led them to God softly. He was patient and kind to them. But today? Things are not like that. Christianity feels like a checklist. You have to fit into some categories before you can be termed a child of God or a Christian.

Go to church every Sunday.

Join this prayer program.

Post prayer links every morning.

Share Bible verses online.

Dress a certain way.

Talk a certain way, and so on.

If you do not do these things, people quietly question your faith. But none of these things are what made people Christian in the Bible.

THE CHURCH HAS BECOME A PLACE OF JUDGMENT

One of the most painful changes in modern Christianity is how judgmental the church has become.People sit in church and scan others with their eyes. They notice clothes before character. They notice shoes before kindness. They notice perfume before purity of heart.

Someone comes to church struggling and instead of help, they receive side eyes. Someone falls into sin and instead of restoration, they are labelled and whispered about. They are being discriminated against because they are sinners and this pushes them away and this is not what Christianity is about.

The irony is that sinners are judging sinners, just differently dressed. Some people sin openly.Others sin quietly and hide it behind church activities. But sin is still sin. You see a young girl who lives and fornicates with her boyfriend judging another girl for being a prostitute. You see a young boy judging another for being a fraudster but he’s not completely honest when doing business with people.

Jesus never taught us to rank sins or rank people. Yet the church has created levels. Levels of holiness. Levels of acceptance. Levels of respect.

EVERYONE THINKS THEY KNOW IT ALL

Another hard truth is this. Many church people believe they have arrived. They are self opinionated.Quick to correct others.Slow to listen.Convinced their understanding is the only correct one.If you question anything, you are rebellious. If you struggle, you lack faith. If you think differently, you are worldly. You must strictly only abide by the church rules and pastor’s teachings. We forget that we are all equally human beings ,and are liable to mistakes and imperfection and can never know it all.

Jesus never acted like a man who knew everything in a way that crushed others. Even though He was God, He listened. He asked questions. He allowed conversations .Yet today, many believers talk more than they love.Church Is No Longer a Safe Space.

Let us say it plainly.

For many people, church is no longer safe.

It is a place of competition.

Who dressed best.

Who arrived in the better car.

Who is more connected?

Who gives more money.

Who sits closer to the front.

People dress not to worship but to be noticed. People give not from love but from pressure. People smile while silently comparing themselves to others.

This was never the intention.

Jesus never asked anyone what they owned before allowing them close. The poor and the rich sat at the same table with Him.But today, wealth often determines visibility and respect in church.

Jesus Never Required Perfection, This part matters deeply. He never said come to Me when you are perfect. He said come to Me when you are tired, heavy, broken. In Matthew 11, Jesus invited the weary, not the righteous. In Luke 5, He said He came for sinners, not those who think they are already good.

Anybody and everybody could talk to Jesus. The woman with the issue of blood did not need permission. The thief on the cross did not need a membership card. The Samaritan woman with a complicated past was not turned away. They did not need to prove anything. They just came and he accepted them the way they are.

That is Christianity. What We Should Sit With

If Jesus walked into many churches today, would He feel welcomed?Or would He be uncomfortable with the pride, the judgment, and the competition. Would He recognize Himself in how we treat people?

These are not questions to attack the church. They are questions to bring us back to Christ,Because Christianity is not about how often you go to church.

It is about how soft your heart is.

How kind you are.

How patient you are.

How much love you show.

How you treat the people around you.

Christianity is about you as a person and how pure your heart is,how genuine you are and not how many times you go to church and pray.

Christianity is not religion!
